Our leadership board provides leadership, accountability, and direction for Homeschool Louisiana. The board consists of homeschooling parents, grandparents, and other dedicated individuals who volunteer their time, talents, and resources to promote and protect home education in Louisiana.

CHRISTOPHER & ASHLEY CHIN

Christopher and Ashley live in New Orleans and have four sons and one daughter. They started their homeschool journey after Hurricane Katrina devastated the New Orleans area. Their family enjoys various activities related to health, fitness, sports, cooking, baking, and the outdoors. Christopher owns and operates a commercial and residential laundry service business that has roots in the New Orleans area since 1880. Christopher has a B.A. in Economics and Finance from Tulane University (1989). Before Ashley came home to educate her children, she worked as an Adjunct Professor at the Tulane School of Public Health, an Epidemiologist for the Louisiana Office of Public Health, and the Director of Wellness Programs for Tulane University. Originally from Mobile, Alabama, she graduated from the University of Alabama with a Master’s in Exercise Physiology in 1999 and completed her doctorate from Tulane in 2006. They faithfully serve at the Church of the King in Kenner, LA. and they have a passion for helping parents prioritize the discipleship of their children.
ROGER & JAN SMITH

The Smiths hail from Louisiana where Roger is a medical doctor, and Jan manages their horse farm and businesses. All four of their adult children were homeschooled until the college years. The homeschool journey began in 1989 when there were only 2 other families homeschooling in their town. Jan began a 3-family organization that has grown through the years. The statewide homeschool conference was an annual lifeline for the Smiths, who decided to start giving back after they finished their service on the NCFCA board in 2011. Roger served as president of Homeschool Louisiana before joining the Alliance board in 2019. The Smiths speak and mentor on the topics of parenting, marriage, education, and leadership, and Roger has a weekly video blog on parenting (@Parenting Matters Now) and is the author of Parenting with Influence.
JAY AND KARLA CURTIS

Jay and Karla Curtis live in West Monroe, where they homeschool their two children. Both are graduates of the University of Louisiana at Monroe; Jay in Radio/TV/Film Production, and Karla in Pharmacy. Karla works part-time at a regional hospital as a pharmacist, and Jay manages two radio stations at ULM. They have served on the local board of the Northeast Louisiana Christian Home Association, and currently serve on the local co-op board and the NELCHA athletic board. The family is also active volunteering at Family Church of West Monroe from infants through youth. The Curtises are excited to encourage others in a Biblical foundation for homeschooling as home discipleship.
ANDRE & JESSIE LEGER

Andre and Jessie Leger live in Mandeville, LA. They are parents of five children, affectionately known as the Fab Five. They began homeschooling back in the dark ages, before the internet, and 23 years later have graduated all of their children and three nieces from their home.

Andre has a BA in Psychology from LSU and works in Security. Jessie worked in ministry at the Care Pregnancy Center as Director of Finance and Legislative Aide before leaving the workforce to homeschool their children.

In 2011, Jessie joined the HOME Classes team where she teaches history and government.

When their oldest son was a junior in highschool, Jessie began serving with TeenPact Leadership Schools, after serving eight years, she stepped into the role of Louisiana State Coordinator in 2017. TeenPact teaches students how the government works and why they should be involved citizens and is an integral part of the government classes she teaches.
As the Directors of Legislative Affairs for Homeschool Louisiana they stay abreast of bills in the legislature that pertain to home education and family issues. The Legers have developed relationships with many elected officials in Louisiana and will continue to meet with legislators to keep them informed of issues homeschool families care about.
